The library of the School of Celtic Studies aims to provide the best facilities and materials for the purpose of advanced research in the area of Celtic Studies.

Collection

The collection of the SCS library covers areas such as

  • Celtic languages and linguistics
  • Celtic art and archaeology
  • Musicology/traditional music
  • Hiberno-Latin
  • Palaeography (Latin & Irish)
  • Textual criticism
  • Grammatical, lexicographical and philological study of Old, Middle and Modern Irish
  • Phonetic investigation of existing Irish dialects
  • Study of Irish placenames
  • Irish social history

ALCID

The School of Celtic Studies is a participating member of ALCID, a cooperative access scheme whereby full-time academics, academic-related staff and registered students reading for postgraduate degrees, have access to the collections of each of the participating libraries, on production of a common ALCID membership card.

ALCID card holders can visit the library by prior appointment.
Monday – Friday
10.00am – 1.00pm &
2.30pm – 5.00pm

ALCID participating libraries are the Libraries of Dublin City University, University College Cork, National University of Ireland Galway, National University of Ireland Maynooth, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Royal Irish Academy, Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, University of Limerick, Mary Immaculate College, Mater Dei Institute of Education, St Patrick's s College Drumcondra, Dublin Institute of Technology, St. Angela's College Sligo, National College of Art & Design and Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.
